Domenico Berardi: Player Profile

19 year-old Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo is one of the most talked about players in Serie A this season. His goal-scoring exploits have attracted attention from a host of clubs all over Europe.
Joining Sassuolo as a 16 year-old, he showed his potential very early on, with great movement and ability on the ball. He is left-footed but can play with both feet, he doesn't lack power or confidence. He is the main penalty-taker on the team, which proves how cool he is under pressure especially as a young player.
In the summer of 2012 Sassuolo manager Eusebio Di Francesco had no choice but to promote him to the senior team, and he took his chance superbly, playing 37 games and scoring 11 goals as sassuolo gained  promotion to Serie A for the first time in their history. Unfortunately for Berardi, an altercation with Livorno goalkeeper Vicenzo Fiorillo got him sent off and banned for a period of three games. That meant he would miss the first few games of the new season.

As it turned out, he didn't feature in any of Sassuolo's first 5 games. He was lucky enough to miss the home game against Inter Milan which Sassuolo lost by 7 goals to nil. In the next game Berardi made his Serie A debut and he hasn't looked back since. His partnership with Simone Zaza and Antonio Floro Flores has been terrorising defences since his debut. He has scored 7 goals in 9 games, as they have won 3 games and drawn 4. Draws with Napoli and Roma have given Berardi and Sassuolo plenty of notoriety in Italy.

After his breakthrough season in 2012/13 numerous clubs especially English clubs, including Manchester United expressed an interest in the player. No bids were forthcoming. Then, in September of this year Juventus announced that they had signed the youngster as part of a deal that sent Luca Marrone in the opposite direction. The deal meant that he could stay in Sassuolo until the end of the season.

Juventus will be getting a young, gifted striker with plenty of ability, and fire in his belly to succeed. He will, no doubt be a quality addition to the Juve ranks, maybe to replace the disappointing Vucinc. A long and hopefully for Juve, successful career is ahead of this talented youngster.
